In-person research days (Kent)
On 9th March 2024 most of the research team met at the University of Kent to kickstart the project with a sharing of ideas. With the introduction of new creative practices, movement and music, and new members of staff to the project, this was an opportunity for everyone to share the way that they work. The day started with everyone leading a short exercise that showed off some of their practice. Some of these included:
- Dr Roanna Mitchell using her expertise in Michael Chekhov to run a ritual exercise to prepare us and the space for work.
- Dr Hannah Newman leading a playful movement exercise based on creating individual spheres.
- Dr Annette Foster ran a stimming exercise with a huge suitcase of goodies.
- Dr Ruth Herbert and Dr Jackie Walduck asking us to think about the music we listened to and giving us an opportunity to play with instruments and how we could create sounds.
After lunch we set off in our pairs to start to create the basis of each of the scripts. Ruth and Jackie worked on “Music and Me”; Hannah and Roanna on “Movement and Me”; and Annette and Professor Nicola Shaughnessyon My Creative Space. We then came back together to share and play with the ideas that were created. We then planned for the next in-person meet up, where we would work with our peer practitioners to test and develop our ideas.
