Abstract

Autistic parents: exploring the impact of social care cuts

There is little research about services and support for autistic parents.

This paper introduces some of the experiences of autistic parents living in a society where the government recognised that support for disabled parents is a human rights issue, but also implemented a decade of austerity and social care cuts. This paper has emerged from a participatory research project that is being led by an autistic PhD student, with the support of autistic parents. The project takes a ‘social model’ approach and focuses on the shared experience of oppression faced by autistic parents.
